Center reopens after COVID-19 closure

The Spafford Children’s Center is begining to cautiously open after more than 2 months of closure and urgent funds are needed to help the many children unable to access home schooling or SCC’s remedial courses online.

With local schools closed for over 2 months during the coronavirus restrictions. Many of our families found home schooling and online courses impossible. So many of them are living below the poverty line with limited or no access to the internet or a laptop. Others have children with learning difficulties who could not interact easily with online courses.

During lockdown, working with UNICEF, SCC has been able to provide over 200 teenagers, in five targeted areas of East Jerusalem, with remedial education and psychosocial support online courses, either individually or in groups.  The Center was also able to provide around 100 parents with online positive education and parenting sessions, helping them to support their children in such difficult times.

The Spafford Children’s Center is now managing a cautious step-by-step return of teachers, social workers, therapists and administrative staff once restrictions are lifted and children can again attend the Center.

In the present situation with no local income and institutional funding under pressure, the Centre faces expenses which continue to mount. Please help raise vital funds so the Spafford Children’s Center can continue to provide essential services to already disadvantaged and vulnerable children and their families who are trying so hard to overcome their many difficulties.
