Legacy giving

Once you have provided for your loved ones, leaving a gift in your Will to the Spafford Children’s Center is a wonderful way to help families in need in the Holy Land to receive the health, education, and supportive care they need.

In the USA

Leaving a bequest to the American Friends of the Spafford Children’s Center Fund (AFSCCF) is simple and can be included either in a will or in a “codicil,” which is an amendment to an existing will.

Sample bequest language for a specific sum:

I hereby make a particular bequest in the amount of $_________ to the American Friends of the Spafford Children’s Center Fund, a Delaware non-profit corporation.

Sample bequest language for other property:

I hereby make a particular bequest of [description of property to be donated] to American Friends of the Spafford Children’s Center Fund, a Delaware non-profit corporation.

Sample bequest language for residual gift [after particular bequests to others]:

I hereby bequeath the remainder of my estate to American Friends of the Spafford Children’s Center Fund, a Delaware non-profit corporation.

In the UK

Charitable legacies are free from Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax and as such could be of benefit to the rest of your estate, as enabling you to make a gift to something close to your heart.

A bequest in a Will may be by way of a legacy or a share of the residuary estate, which is the remainder of a deceased person’s estate after payment of all debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and any legacies. If you have already made a Will you can add a codicil.

A legacy is one of the most traditional forms of gift to charity of which there are two types.

Specific Legacy – which means that a specific asset, for example shares or property, are gifted to a particular charity.

Pecuniary Legacy – which means that the deceased pledges a specific sun of money to a particular charity.
