Spafford Children’s Center is a charitable institution founded in 1925 in the Old City of Jerusalem. It began as an orphanage but soon grew into a hospital for children in order to meet the medical needs of the day. In 1970 the political situation changed and SCC was able to serve the local community more effectively as an outpatient center. In 1987 an integrated array of services was introduced for both mothers and children, which continue to the present day. Since its establishment, SCC has taken the lead in providing a holistic approach to child health and empowerment by providing psychological, social, and educational support in East Jerusalem for children who live under difficult socio-economic conditions.
